The Newell Cottage is located on the shore of Lake Salem in Derby, VT in the Northeast Kingdom near the Canadian border. It has a private 100-foot sandy beach and is great for swimming, fishing, hiking and biking, and enjoying beach life. The cottage has its own dock and a 12-foot aluminum rowboat, which can be used with a small outboard motor. The lake is shallow with a drop-off about 100 yards from shore making it safe for swimming and dogs frolicking. The cottage is located on a peninsula separating Big Salem from Little Salem. Both lakes are excellent for fishing with plenty of bass, walleye, and salmon.

The Northeast Kingdom is one of Vermont’s hidden treasures. The area has been called the Switzerland of Vermont because of beautiful mountains such as Jay Peak, Burke, and Owls Head which are great for hiking and there is a NEK Mountain Challenge of 20 summits to reach. There are numerous lakes to visit such as Memphremagog, Seymour, Willoughby, Caspian, and Echo, adding to the beauty of the area. Montreal lies less than two hours away for a day of international food and sightseeing. The area has several golf courses and tennis courts are available in Derby.

The interior of the Newell Cottage has skylights to bring in the sunshine and light. The large living room has a fieldstone fireplace for cozy evenings. A screened-in front porch runs the length of the cottage for dining, watching sunsets over Lake Salem, or napping. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the full Vermont experience.

The cottage has three full bedrooms and two sleeping lofts (a guaranteed hit with the kids). The master bedroom has a queen bed. The other two bedrooms each have two single beds. The two sleeping lofts have double beds.

The kitchen was recently remodeled. It is well equipped with a microwave, coffee maker, stove, and refrigerator, plus plentiful plates, utensils, pots and pans, and serving and storage equipment. There is a grill for outdoor beach barbeques.

The bathroom has a tub and shower. The cottage has a vacant beachfront lot beside it for added privacy.

Silver Acre Cottage

LThe Silver Acre Cottage is located on the shore of Lake Salem in Derby in the Northeast Kingdom near the Canadian border. What makes Silver Acre so special and popular is the huge 200 foot sandy beach it has as well as a large sand bar that is formed by the Clyde River joining Lake Salem. Great for shore fishing, digging and watching the birds that flock there.

The dining area has a large table. There is a front-screened porch which runs the length of the cottage, has dining table and chairs and offers a great place to watch the activity on the lake.
 

The cottage has 2 bedrooms each with a queen bed, a loft with two single beds, and two single beds nestled in the living room.  The cottage is ideal for a family with small children. 

The kitchen is well-equipped with microwave, coffee maker, stove and refrigerator and plentiful plates, utensils, pots and pans, and serving and storage equipment.  It looks out on the lake which is great for keeping an eye on children. There is a grill for outdoor barbeques.

The bedrooms have one queen, one double, and one single bed. There is another single bed in an alcove in the living room. The bathroom has a tub and shower.

The interior of the Ainsboro cottage is knotty pine, wide plant wood floors, and roughhewn beams. It is a great place to enjoy the full Vermont experience.  The living room is spacious and is heated by a Franklin stove.  We provide firewood to keep the cottage cozy. A screen porch runs the length of the front of the cottage with table and chairs for evening dinners watching the lake and the sunset.

The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two single beds. There is a sleeping loft with a double bed. There also is a single bed on the screened porch.

The kitchen looks out on the lake.  It is well-equipped with microwave, coffee maker, stove, and refrigerator and plentiful plates, utensils, pots and pans, and serving and storage equipment.  There is a grill for outdoor barbeques.
